## About the Show

Starting a solo podcast is harder than it looks. Without a guest to bounce off of, you're left talking to a wall, waiting for the neighbor's lawnmower to stop, and spending your evenings cutting out breaths and mouth clicks in an audio editor.

_Micless_ is a 30-day experiment in doing it differently. Every day, software engineer [David Stack](https://micless.com/contributors/david-stack) shares one concise thought on what it actually takes to start, write, and stick with a solo show. Every episode is narrated from a written script using his Studio Voice, without ever hitting record. No guests, no intro jingles, and no audio editing. Just one clear thought, every day.

### [Same effort, better results](https://micless.com/episodes/e7-same-effort-better-results)

When I started this 30-day challenge, I assumed skipping the mic and audio editor would make episodes take ten minutes. Instead, I still spend forty-five minutes a day. The difference is that zero percent goes to audio logistics, and all of it goes into sharpening my ideas.

### [Talk to one person](https://micless.com/episodes/e6-talk-one-person)

Writing the way you talk is only half the secret to a natural solo podcast. Who you think you're talking to determines whether you sound like a friend or an announcer. Here is how one-to-one copywriting and Ira Glass's approach to radio help catch performative crowd-talk on the page.

### [Write the way you talk](https://micless.com/episodes/e5-write-way-you-talk)

Common podcasting advice says reading from a script makes you sound like a robot, but scripts aren't the problem. Formal school and business writing is. Here is what David Ogilvy's 1982 memo teaches about writing the way you talk, and how using an ear test in Elora catches stiff phrasing.

### [Length isn't depth](https://micless.com/episodes/e4-length-isnt-depth)

Podcasters often confuse length with value, spending forty minutes circling a single point when improvising into a mic. Here is what short-form writers like Derek Sivers understand about respecting the audience's attention, and why writing a script first produces a tight, three-minute episode.

### [Good content grows from a tiny seed](https://micless.com/episodes/e3-start-with-a-seed)

Starting from a broad topic like marketing or productivity leads to generic, Wikipedia-sounding advice. Better content starts with a tiny seed, like a single highlighted sentence or a slow hunch, and grows by talking it through with a friend or AI interviewer until it becomes a clear script.

### [You just need one clear idea](https://micless.com/episodes/e2-one-clear-idea)

On an interview podcast, the guest carries the episode. On a solo show, there is nowhere to hide. Here is why making a three-minute solo episode feels harder than a forty-five-minute conversation, and how separating the thinking from the speaking takes the pressure off the blank page.
