# This should be easier

Starting a solo podcast usually means setting up a mic, waiting for a quiet house, and spending your evening cutting out breaths and mouth clicks in an audio editor. For this 30-day podcast challenge, I'm testing a calmer workflow: starting with a written script first, then publishing it with my Studio Voice inside Elora, without ever hitting record.

## Show Notes

Starting a solo podcast usually means setting up a mic, waiting for a quiet house, and spending your evening cutting out breaths and mouth clicks in an audio editor. For this 30-day podcast challenge, I'm testing a calmer workflow: starting with a written script first, then publishing it with my Studio Voice clone, without ever hitting record.

In this episode, host [David Stack](https://micless.com/contributors/david-stack) unpacks why the bar for solo podcasting feels unnecessarily high, the friction of speaking off the cuff versus writing on the page, and how voice cloning opens up a calmer way to publish.

## Transcript

If you want to share an idea in writing, you just open a blank page and start typing.

You don't have to shut the window because the neighbor's dog is barking, or they start mowing their lawn.

You don't have to check which microphone input your computer decided to switch to while you were sleeping.

And if you write a clumsy sentence halfway through, you just hit backspace... and fix it.

You don't have to throw the whole page out and start over.

With a solo podcast, though, the bar is... weirdly high.

Before you even figure out what you want to say, you have to set up a mic, wait for a quiet house, and hope you don't stumble ten minutes into a twenty-minute thought.

Then you get to spend your evening staring at complicated audio interfaces, cutting out your own breaths and mouth sounds.

It's a lot.

I kept looking at that process and thinking: this should be easier.

As a software engineer, I do my best thinking while writing.

I wondered if the same principle could apply to podcasting.

Whenever I try to talk off the cuff into a microphone, I either ramble or freeze up.

So I decided to test a different way of making a solo show.

Right now, I'm not speaking into a mic.

This whole episode started as a written script, just like a short blog post.

What you're hearing is my Studio Voice, trained on a sixty second sample of my actual voice inside a tool I've been building called Elora.

I call it: micless podcasting.

Every day this month, I'm going to share a short episode about what it actually takes to start and stick with a solo podcast, and publish it without ever hitting record.

No guests...

No intro music...

And no late nights editing audio files.

Just one thought a day, written down and spoken out loud.

If this has piqued your interest, I invite you to join me on this journey.

I'm David, and this has been day one... of Micless.

See you tomorrow.
